North Tahoe cross-country | Lakers race in large California meet

The Lakers fared well across all age divisions in the Bella Vista Bronco Invitational in Fair Oaks this past Saturday.

In varsity racing, North Tahoe senior Tara Gallant recorded a quality finish in a field of 19 small schools and 156 racers, placing 11th with a time of 20:09.66 over the 5,000-meter course. Cassi Land of Sonora won in 19:15.36.

Following Gallant were Laker teammates Sophia Tallarigo in 44th (22:23.46), Kaya Williams in 57th (23:07.66) and Ingrid Roske in 111th (25:28.45).

Out of 183 runners from 22 small schools in the varsity boys race, senior James Palacio led the Lakers with a 29th-place finish in 18:18.16.

Moshe McCarter-Ribakoff of Placer won in 16:31.39.

Palacio was trailed by teammates Jackson Shaw, who was 51st (18:52.62), Cam Goldstone in 67th (19:26.81), Dylan Syben 74th (19:42.10), Austin Nall 79th (19:47.77), Kobi Hudson 84th (19:56.59) and Julien Bordes 107th (20:38.83).

Meanwhile in the frosh/soph races, North Tahoe sophomore Quinn Lehmkuhl and freshman JC Schoonmaker won their respective 3,400-meter races.

Schoonmaker claimed his victory with a time of 11:54.32. Teammate Carson Gracey finished 20th (13:21.12), Jake Inclan in 35th (13:45.25), Shayne Hanley in 66th (14:51), Kevin Caravelli in 74th (15:06.87) and Connor Hipsley (15:41.39).

Lehmkuhl earned her win in 13:41.69. North Tahoe's Torrie Goldstone was 17th (16:11.29), Camille Syben 18th (16:11.61) and Jacs Mellor 19th (16:12.65), while Katie Plexico (19:22.63) and Brianna Kissman (21:50.50) also raced.

In the boys junior varsity race, Nick Joslin finished in 13:38.27 and Drew Austin in 15:20.74.

The Lakers will race in the Mt. SAC Cross Country Invitational in Walnut, Caif., on Friday. The Northern Division III regional championships are scheduled for Oct. 31 at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno. State is Nov. 8 in Las Vegas.
