North Tahoe cross country | McDermott leads way at Mt. SAC Invite
October 25, 2011
Noah McDermott once again delivered a fine performance for his Lakers, this time at the largest cross country invitational in the nation.
McDermott, a sophomore, raced to a seventh-place finish out of 255 Division 5 runners at the 64th annual Mt. SAC Cross Country Invitational in Southern California this past Friday.
Combined with two top-10 finishes by teammates in their race, the result helped lead the North Tahoe boys to a third-place finish out of 35 teams from across the state and beyond.
McDermott posted a time of 16 minutes and 36 seconds on the 3-mile course, which was good enough for second place in his race behind Brendon Cohen (16:24) of Rolling Hills Prep. There were two separate Division 5 races to accommodate the large field of runners.
Gabe Arias-Sheridan of St. Joseph (Ala.), who competed in the other Division 5 race, posted the overall win in a blazing 15:46 as his school captured first place.
North Tahoe junior Patrick McElravey finished sixth in his race in a time of 16:59, while teammate Fletcher McConnell was seventh in 17:21. Sean McDermott placed 17th and Brandon Hackettt was 33rd to round out the Lakers’ top five scores (the number used for the team score).
