North Tahoe Lakers soccer rolls over Elko in league opener
September 13, 2017
The North Tahoe boys' soccer team continued to impress in the early part of the season, with the team picking up a pair of victories over Lowry and Reno.
The Class 3A Lakers (3-2, 2-0 Northern League) are now riding a three-game winning streak behind a pair of lopsided league victories, and a defeat of a Class 4A squad.
North Tahoe hosted their second Northern League game on Saturday, Sept. 9, with a home contest against Lowry.
The Lakers put on a dominant display during the first 40 minutes of play with the team beating the Buckaroos for four goals before halftime.
Junior Andres Cerda netted a hat trick in the half, scoring the teams final three goals of the period.
Cerda's three goals came on the heels of scoring four against Churchill County.

"It was all my teammates, just quick one touch and in," Cerda said.
Each of Cerda's goals in the game came off of passes from sophomore Benito Gonzalez. Senior Carlos Preciado scored the Lakers' other goal in the half.
North Tahoe would strike again shortly into the second half with Gonzalez scoring, followed by junior Isaac Ortega netting a goal. Freshman Vicente Morales then scored in the final minutes of the game to put the Lakers up 7-0.
"The first half was excellent," Head Coach Beto Alcaraz said. "We moved the ball really well, but the second half, we relaxed a lot. We have a tendency to do that. We've got to play with intensity for 80 minutes because we're going to have teams that are really going to challenge us. We cannot relax at all, but overall I think we played well."
The Lakers then traveled to Reno High on Monday, Sept. 11, for a non-league contest, and took a 2-1 win against the struggling Huskies (1-7).
North Tahoe will return to league play on Friday, Sept. 15, with a home game against Elko.
On the girls' side, the Lakers took down Lowry in a 4-2 victory at home on Saturday, Sept. 9. The Lady Lakers will next (2-0, 2-0 Northern League) face Elko at home on Friday, Sept. 15.
