North Tahoe Middle School girls’ hoops team wins league title
October 22, 2010
For the second time in four years – and only the second time in the school’s history – the eighth-grade North Tahoe Middle School girls’ basketball team won the league championship by defeating a skilled Sage Ridge team on its home court in Reno, 32-28.
Both teams were tied for first place going into the contest with 8-1 records, with the championship and a regional playoff berth at stake. The game was a back-and-forth affair with both teams hitting critical shots when given the opportunity.
North Tahoe coach Scott Conn was thrilled with his team’s showing.
“Outstanding offensive performances were turned in by Krista Conn, Bridget Schroepfer, Sara Trimm and Sage Chador in each and every game this season to help get our team in position to compete for the title,” he said. “However, I can’t speak highly enough of the consistent defensive efforts put in by Jennay Argiris, Savannah App, Francessca English and Jocelyn Najar throughout the year.”
Added coach Marc Kopp: “The girls knew what was at stake and were determined not to lose this final game of the season. We couldn’t be more proud of their effort.”
The girls went on to finish fourth in the regional tournament, the highest finish for a North Tahoe Middle School team in history, which included a key win over Alder Creek Middle School.

“This team will do good things in the future for North Tahoe High School,” Conn said. “Since coach Kopp and I are now coaching over at Truckee High, I hope we didn’t teach them too well!”
