North Tahoe soccer | Girls play Dayton to 2-2 draw

TAHOE CITY, Calif. and#8212; The Laker girls seemed poised to secure a win on senior night after controlling the action for the better part of 80 minutes against visiting Dayton on Tuesday.
But in the 65th minute, Dayton’s Maribel Ledezma erased a 2-1 North Tahoe lead when she beat the defense single-handedly and scored from the top of the 18-yard box.
The 2-2 tie adjusted the Lakers’ Sierra League record to 3-6-2, and Dayton’s to 2-8-1. North Tahoe had already clinched the fourth and final playoff seed.
and#8220;Despite the score, I am happy with how we played,and#8221; said North Tahoe head coach Jon Rockwood. and#8220;We had 17 shots on goal and 16 shots were wide or off target. We dominated most of the game and played well. Sometimes the ball just doesn’t find the back of the net.and#8221;
Angela Wood gave the Lakers an early lead just five minutes into the contest, as she gathered a pass from Liz Buhler and fired an angled, long-range shot from about 25 yards past Dayton goalie Serena Pistilli.
The Dust Devils knotted the score on a penalty kick in the 25th minute before the Lakers regained the lead again 10 minutes later. This time it was freshman Audrie Johnson, who scored on a breakaway off of Buhler’s second assist of the night.

and#8220;Audrie and Liz did an excellent job of finding space behind the Dayton sweeper, exploiting it and finishing with a quick shot at the 18,and#8221; Rockwood said of the goal.
Dayton would not go away after the halftime break, however, and Ledezma managed to score the equalizer 15 minutes before the final whistle sounded.
and#8220;We played well. Unfortunately, finishing proved difficult and we broke down on defense a couple of times and paid the price,and#8221; said Rockwood.
