North Tahoe soccer | Highlanders get best of Lakers in first meetings
October 3, 2011
The North Tahoe soccer teams dropped their Sierra League games against visiting rival Incline this past Thursday, with the boys losing 4-1 and the girls 4-0.
In the boys’ game, Kyle Reeves scored a hat trick with three goals to lead the Highlanders past the Lakers, who fell to 2-3-1 in Sierra League play.
Incline (3-3-1) controlled play until drawing first blood with a goal in the 33rd minute, when Erick Rodriguez assisted Reeves on a goal. Six minutes later, Diego Salazar scored on a rebound to put the Highlanders up 2-0 going into the half.
Reeves scored a second goal at the 55-minute mark off an assist from Salvador Vargas, before the Lakers got on the board with a goal from Garrett Driller in the 62nd minute. Reeves then finished the scoring with another goal assisted by Rodriguez.
In the girls’ game, Incline pressured the Lakers’ defensive end for much of the first half only to remain scoreless through 33 minutes of action. But in the 34th minute, the Highlanders finally broke through when Kayla Goldberg passed a ball to Haley Derr, who put in a high shot from 30 yards out to give the Highlanders a 1-0 lead at the half.
The second goal came just 9 minutes into the second half off a pass from Maddie Findlen to Derr. Two corner kicks from Derr then found the foot of Kerri Tonking and head of Elise Nelson to round out the scoring.
