North Tahoe soccer | Laker girls, boys tie against Sparks

Both North Tahoe soccer teams tied against visiting Sparks on Tuesday, with the girls finishing in a 1-1 draw and the boys in a 2-2 tie.

In the girls’ game, Jessica Mendoza gave the Railroaders a 1-0 lead midway through the first half on shot from 40 yards out.

The Lakers answered with a timely goal in the final 2 minutes. It was a well-developed play, said North Tahoe head coach Jon Rockwood. Nicole Younger passed the ball up to Kelsey Wittels, whom the Lakers pulled up to striker from her normal sweeper position, and Wittels delivered a pass to Mago Olivares, who blasted the shot into the goal to tie the score.



and#8220;In general, the score didn’t reflect what was going on in the game,and#8221; Rockwood said. and#8220;We looked really good as a team. But Sparks has an incredible goalkeeper. She must have stopped four of five of our offensive attacks.and#8221;

The Laker girls are now 2-3-2 in Sierra League play. Sparks is 2-4-1 in league.



Ashton Williams scored both goals in the boys’ game, and Freddy Ramirez assisted both goals.

and#8220;It was a very good game,and#8221; said North Tahoe head coach Beto Alcaraz. and#8220;It was very physical.and#8221;

The Lakers scored first before the Railroaders responded with back-to-back goals to take a 2-1 lead. Williams then scored the equalizer to adjust the Lakers’ record to 2-3-2 in league. Sparks is 3-2-1.
