Sun Staff reports

Emma Garrard/Sierra SunNorth Tahoe senior Anja Wittels was voted Northern 4A Girls Singles Tennis Player of the Year. Wittels, the Lakers' No. 1 singles player the past four years, finished her senior season 23-1 overall and 21-0 in league play.

It’s a fitting end to a sparkling four-year high school tennis career.

After wrapping up a flawless regular season and playing into the regional quarterfinal match, North Tahoe senior Anja Wittels was voted Northern 4A Girls Singles Player of the Year by league coaches.

Making the honor more impressive, Wittels’ Lakers are the only 2A program in a league made up mostly of 4A schools. Truckee and Sparks, both 3A, are the only other non-4A members.

Wittels ” the Lakers’ No. 1 singles player the past four years ” finished a perfect 21-0 during the regular season taking on every other team’s No. 1 player.

In the Northern 4A Regional Championships, Wittels swept through her first two matches, 6-0, 6-0, before losing to Galena’s Hannah Llop, 6-2, 2-6, 3-6, in her quarterfinal.

Wittels made regionals each of the past three years.
