North Tahoe track | Lakers claim top finishes at Big George Invite

The North Tahoe track and field team once again held its own against larger schools at the Big George Invitational at Douglas last Saturday.
Noah McDermott and Tara Gallant both won their respective 1,600- and 3,200-meter races, while several Lakers posted top-10 finishes.
McDermott raced to victory in the 1,600 with a time of 4:40.21, compared to Spanish Springs runner-up Travis Heitzenrader's 4:45.26. Nobody was close to McDermott in the 3,200, as finished in 10:12.43 to Douglas runner-up Austin Croxall's 10:38.50.
Gallant won the varsity girls 1,600 ahead of Madison Cote of Douglas, posting a time of 5:39.06 to Cote's 5:47.19. Gallant took the win in the 3,200 with a time of 12:16.06. Lindsey Adams of Douglas was second in 12:37.90.
Gallant's wins helped lead the North Tahoe girls to a sixth-place finish overall out of 19 schools and second among Division III schools behind Yerington, which finished with a team score of 51 to the Lakers' 49.5.
Sophomore Allison Wright placed fourth in the 200-meter dash in a time of 27.33 and was eighth in the 100 in 13.45. Wright also was part of the fourth-place 4 x 200 relay team (1:56.95), as well as the fifth-place 4 x 100 relay (54.51).

Sophia Tallarigo placed sixth in the 3,200 with a time of 13:06.89, while Kaya Williams was eighth in the same race in 13:15.03. Quinn Lehmkuhl was eighth in the 1,600, in 6:04.21. Kristen Gallant finished the 1,600 in 7:10.53.
The girls 4 x 800 relay finished fourth with a time of 11:05.63.
Jordan Briggs threw the shot put 31-10.50, which was good enough for fourth place. She was 12th in the discus with a throw of 97-09.
Maddie Cleeland was 14th in the 300 hurdles in 55.60. Angela Wood finished 11th in the shot put with a mark of 30-06.50, 12th in the high jump at 4-04, and 15th in the long jump at 14-02.50, and Kyla Pierce also cleared 4-04 in the high jump to tie for 12th, and recorded a mark of 8-07 in the long jump. Sara Trimm threw the discus 84-07 and Michelle Grijalva 61-10. Grijalva threw the shot put 21-05.
For the Laker boys, James Palacio finished seventh in the 800, posting a time of 2:15.36, and was 22nd in the 3,200, in 11:52.18. Cam Goldstone finished 12th in the 3,200 with a time of 11:31.44.
Freshman Max Burkhart placed seventh in the high jump, clearing 5-06, and was 14th in the long jump with a leap of 19-00.5. Senior Jordan Holst finished 13th in the discus with a throw of 112-03 and was 24th in the shot put with a throw of 34-08.5.
Nick Joslin threw the discus 97-07 and Jacob Buhler 67-10. Andy Morgan cleared 5-00 in high jump and jumped 14-10 in the long jump. Colton Wood threw the shot put 31-05, Joslin 30-10 and Thomas Cornwell 30-01.
Kobi Hudson posted a time of 2:33.58 in the 800 and 5:53.85 in the 1,600.
The boys 4 x 400 relay placed ninth in 3:55.60.
North Tahoe is scheduled to compete in the Nevada Union Invitational in Grass Valley on Friday. The regional championships are May 16-17 in Winnemucca. State will be held at Carson High School on May 23-24.
