North Tahoe volleyball | Lakers drop home match to Highlanders

TAHOE CITY, Calif. and#8212; The Lakers held several leads in a competitive first set before fading down the stretch in a league loss against visiting Incline on Wednesday.
North Tahoe came up short, 17-25, in a back-and-forth opening game, then dropped the next two by scores of 9-25 and 17-25.
and#8220;We let down. We’re in a slump right now,and#8221; said North Tahoe head coach Tom LeFevers, whose team fell to 3-4 in the Mount Rose League and 6-15 overall. and#8220;Mentally we’re letting down. There’s no magic pill for that, so we’ll try again tomorrow (Thursday at Whittell).and#8221;
Momentum shifted by the point in the first set, which featured eight ties and three lead changes, the last at 14-14. The Highlanders (4-4 Rose, 7-8 overall) then went on an 11-3 run to close out the game.
and#8220;We just had to get warmed up a little bit,and#8221; said Incline head coach Tacy Kelly. and#8220;The girls got in their groove after that.and#8221;
Incline players remained in that groove throughout the second set, which they led from the start before Tori McCunn ended it with six consecutive serves.

and#8220;We were able to finish points,and#8221; Kelly said. and#8220;We’ve worked really hard on passing, because that’s where it starts, and then ending it.and#8221;
The Highlanders again stormed out to a quick lead in the final set, leading by as many as seven points before the Lakers made a mini run to pull to within three, at 18-15. Incline used a 7-2 run to close out the match.
and#8220;We have to play as a team and play hard for the whole match, not just moments,and#8221; LeFevers said.
Emily Ashbaugh led the Lakers with four kills and four blocks, while Alexa Andrews and Tara Turpin each finished with three kills. Anny Bolton had three blocks, Lacey Nored had one kill and one block, and Iren Rojas tallied 11 assists.
For Incline, Laurel Perry posted a match-high 10 kills. Charlene Swick finished with nine kills and McCunn and Mariah Joseph had seven apiece.
