North Tahoe’s Lane brothers to play for New Mexico State
August 16, 2007
The Lane brothers are moving on up, and as they have for the last few years, they’re doing it together.
Robert and Ryan Lane, both North Tahoe High graduates, hit the road Wednesday for New Mexico State, where they will play baseball for the next two years for the Aggies.
Robert, a 2004 graduate of North Tahoe, decided to redshirt his freshman year at Santa Rosa Junior College.
When Ryan, a 2005 grad, joined his older brother at Santa Rosa the following year, they played half a year before transferring to Yuba College, where they stayed through the 2007 season. Both were recruited by New Mexico State earlier this summer.
As they have since Ryan joined Robert at Santa Rosa, the brothers will share a house together in Las Cruces, N.M.
“Me and Robert have lived together everywhere we’ve gone,” the younger Lane brother said.

In addition to both being recruited by the same Division 1 program, Ryan said it was exciting to move into the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) ” with University of Nevada, Reno, Sacramento State, San Jose State and Fresno State ” enabling the Lanes to play against schools close to home.
“It’s cool because we play all the local teams,” Ryan said.
The Lane brothers helped the Yuba 49ers to a 26-15 overall record in 2007.
Ryan tallied a .376 batting average last season while Robert managed to hit .333. Ryan scored 31 runs, had 32 RBIs and four home runs on the season.
Robert was recruited as a third baseman by the Aggies and Ryan will continue to play in left field at New Mexico State.
Ryan said that while other colleges showed interest in the brothers, both were happy to be recruited by the Aggies, especially so late in the year, as they signed their letters of intent in the middle of July.
“It was getting kind of late,” Ryan said.
New Mexico State finished last season with a 22-34 record overall and a 6-18 mark in WAC play.
Physicals are next Tuesday in Las Cruces, Ryan said, and practice starts a week after that.
Look for the Lane brothers at Peccole Park in Reno on April 4-6, 2008, when New Mexico State travels to play UNR.
