Prep alpine skiing | Lakers extend league lead with another win

North Tahoe used a well-rounded effort to claim its second win of the season in a Tahoe Basin Ski League slalom race at Diamond Peak on Monday.
The Laker girls landed four skiers in the top 10 to take the win, while the Truckee boys swept the top five places to win the boysand#8217; competition. North Tahoeand#8217;s boys were third and Truckeeand#8217;s girls fourth.
Truckee junior Patrick Romano raced to a first-place individual finish with ease with a combined time of 56.60 seconds between his two runs. Teammate Zac Bush finished runner-up in 59.64, while teammates Wes Harrington was third in 59.82, Isaac Osborne was fourth in 1:00.54 and Nico Kuyper fifth in 1:01.11.
While only the top four individual results count toward each teamand#8217;s score, the Truckee boysand#8217; top-five sweep led them to a dominating win with 218 points to South Tahoeand#8217;s 176 and North Tahoeand#8217;s 171.
Ryan Conner finished ninth in 1:04.30 to lead the Lakers, while teammate Ryan Faye was 10th in 1:04.50, Garrett Driller was 18th, Wildon DesLauriers 20th and Tyler Olk 21st.
The Laker girls, led by Nikki Caravelliand#8217;s second-place finish with a time of 1:00.31 to Whittell skier Whitney Gardnerand#8217;s 1:00.14, easily took the team win with a score of 209 points to South Tahoeand#8217;s 187.

The North Tahoe girls placed all four of their scoring finishers in the top 10, as Francesca English finished fourth in 1:01.18, Bozhie Pokorny was sixth in 1:03.88 and Johanna Gur was seventh in 1:08.45. The Lakersand#8217; Audrey Johnson was 12th, Kami Abi-Nader 16th and Sydney Lancaster 17th.
Sophomore Hailey Perkins led the Truckee girls with an eighth-place finish in 1:08.71. Teammates Zoe Willis finished 13th, Chelsea Mohun 22nd and Valerie Vajgrt 25th.
When all tallied, the North Tahoe boysand#8217; and girlsand#8217; teams combined for a winning score of 380 points, which was just three points ahead of Truckeeand#8217;s 377. South Tahoe came in third with 363 points, followed by Whittell (307), Douglas (278), Carson (216) and Incline (138), which has only two girls and two boys.
North Tahoe leads the league standings with 26 points on the season. South Tahoe is second with 24 points and Truckee third with 22.
