Prep Nordic skiing | Sugar Bowl Academy girls dominant at Mammoth Classic

Led by Cassidy Cichowicz’s first-place finish, the Sugar Bowl Academy girls swept the top four spots at the Mammoth Classic this past Friday, while Truckee’s Jordan McElroy was the top varsity boy.Cichowicz posted a winning time of 24 minutes and 2 seconds on the approximately 6-kilometer course to lead a group of 15 skiers in the varsity girls’ race. She was followed by teammate Katrin Larusson, who finished runner-up in 24:03, as Laurel Fiddler rounded out the top three in 24:18 and Joelle Romo placed fourth in 25:34.Truckee’s Gabrielle Rinne finished fifth in a time of 25:48, and fellow Wolverine Skyler Flora was sixth in 26:32. Bria Riggs (26:53) of the Sugar Bowl Academy was seventh, while Emily Nall (28:48) led the North Tahoe girls in ninth and teammate Tara Gallant (29:03) was 10th. In the varsity boys’ race, McElroy skied to victory in a time of 20:01. North Tahoe’s Patrick McElravey placed second in 20:42 and Laker teammate Peter Holmes cracked the top three in 22:22.Sam Zabell of the Sugar Bowl Academy, who had just earned a couple of gold medals at the North American and Ski Orienteering Championships during the week, was fourth in 22:31 and Shane Christian of North Tahoe was fifth in 22:35.Truckee’s Brandon Deeter (23:04) came in seventh and Incline’s Evan Vomund (23:09) was eighth. Peter Carroll (23:36) led the Sugar Bowl Academy boys in ninth place, while North Tahoe’s Jackson Wood (25:03) rounded out the top 10.The Wolverines swept the top three places in the open boys’ race, with Eli Yale (23:40) winning, followed by Aaron Deeter and Brandon Flora. Savannah Blide (27:33) of the Sugar Bowl Academy was second in the open girls’ race.In the approximately 3-kilometer middle school race, Alder Creek dominated on the girls’ side by capturing the top eight places, led by Hannah Halvorsen’s win in a time of 13:00. Julien Bordes, meanwhile, led the North Tahoe boys to a sweep of the top three, winning in 11:27.Alder Creek’s Jenna Rohlf was second in the girls’ race and was trailed by teammates Lizzie Larkins, Kyla Burrill, Olivia Yale, Jessica Lebedeff, Mia Winans and Brianna Parker. Bordes was followed by teammates Dylan Syben and Brandon Herhusky, while Skyler Mullings of the Sugar Bowl Academy was fourth and Andrew Clusserath of Alder Creek fifth.
