Prep snowboard racing: Murphy wins 5th straight, Truckee boys win league title

Staff report

Senior Ryan Murphy and the Truckee boys snowboard team will enter the CNISSF state championships on quite a roll.

Murphy, the defending state champion, led the Wolverines with his fifth consecutive win in six races to end the regular season at Alpine Meadows on Friday.

Teammate Quinntin Butler recorded another second-place finish — his fifth of the season — to help lead the Truckee boys to the Central II league title, with 2,226 points to runner-up Placer's 2,164.

Trailing Murphy and Butler, who posted times of 1:15.48 and 1:17.01, respectively, were Placer's Troy Sheldon in third (1:17.37) and Truckee's Charles Blanc in fourth (1:22.40).

Omar Cerda led North Tahoe's boys in 13th place (1:29.16), while teammate Gordon Vanhusen was 31st.

In the girls race, Placer's Olivia Obray and Lily Worthington finished one-two with times of 1:24.53 and 1:26.48, respectively, and Del Oro's Cathilyn McIntosh was third in 1:31.50.
