Prep snowboarding: Lakers tie for first at Alpine Meadows

The North Tahoe snowboard team tied Colfax for first place overall in a CNISSF giant slalom race at Alpine Meadows on Monday.
North Tahoe and Colfax each posted a combined score of 490 between their boys and girls squads to lead the way. Nevada Union was second at 439, followed by Placer with 438, Truckee with 426, Davis with 389 and Bear River with 193.
Paced by Emily Ashbaugh and Kenna Bolt’s fourth- and fifth-place finishes, respectively, the Lakers captured first place in the girls’ competition with a score of 248 to the Davis girls’ 239.
In all North Tahoe had seven girls finish in the top 20, as Kara Horn placed 13th, Lexi Schumann 14th, Tara Turpin 16th, Taylor Lewis 17th and Jamie Gross 20th. Lacey Nored finished 21st.
Truckee’s girls also fared well, taking fifth as a team as Ruby Wood recorded a third-place finish and Shauna Day sixth. Ariah Curtis was 26th.
Caty O’Connor of Placer won the race.

In the boys’ competition, Colfax won with a score of 262, while North Tahoe and Nevada Union tied for second at 242. Truckee’s boys tied with Placer with a score of 216.
Griffin Lancaster led the Laker boys in third place. He was followed by teammates Ben Reilly in sixth, Clayton Doyle in 11th and Thomas Snow in 22nd.
For the Truckee boys, Ryan Cowie took eighth place, Benny Rocha was 17th, Austin McWhinney 20th, Derrick Bohlman 23rd and Sean Lefrak 24th.
Danny Kern of Colfax placed first individually.
