Prep volleyball | Lakers earn hard-fought win against South Tahoe; Wolverines cruise

The Lakers are riding a two-match win streak in Mount Rose League play after defeating South Tahoe in five sets on Thursday and beating Sparks in four sets on Friday.

North Tahoe is now 2-2 in the Mount Rose League, 1-2 against Northern 2A teams and 4-13 overall.

Thursdayand#8217;s win avenged a loss in straight sets at South Tahoe just one week prior. The difference this time, said North Tahoe head coach Tom LeFevers, is that the Lakers played with a better sense of teamwork while never backing down against the larger school.



and#8220;That was fun,and#8221; he said of the match, which the Lakers settled by a score of 27-25, 12-25, 25-20, 12-25 and 15-13. and#8220;The girls held in there and got the win. They (the Vikings) serve well and do some things well. But we played more as a team and didnand#8217;t get discouraged when we got behind. We kept plugging away, and the score took care of itself.and#8221;

Tara Turpin tallied seven kills and three digs in the win, while Alexa Andrews had six kills and two blocks, and Anny Bolton had four kills and two blocks. Iren Rojas finished with 21 assists, Taylor Briggs had three blocks and Heidi Jimenez had four digs.



The Lakers then defeated Sparks in four, 24-26, 25-16, 25-18 and 25-23, the next day.

and#8220;That was a very good match,and#8221; LeFevers said. and#8220;We really came together and played as a team. And when we play as a team, everyone gets better. Itand#8217;s pretty amazing.and#8221;

Andrews led the way with 13 kills, Bolton posted five kills and two blocks, and Turpin had four kills and two digs. Lauren Willson added four blocks, and Rojas had six service aces.

UP NEXT: North Tahoe plays at Sparks on Wednesday and hosts Truckee on Friday at 6 p.m.

Truckee defeated Incline in straight sets, 25-17, 25-14 and 25-13, on Friday night to improve to 4-0 in the Mount Rose League and 22-4 overall.

Brittany Thomas had 14 set assists followed by Jillian Akers with 12. Krysta Murphy finished with the most serves, 24, and the most aces, four, while Annie Reiswig led the Wolverines with 11 kills out of 19 attempts. Akers had five kills and Kiersten Knoppel had four.

Truckee’s defense was outstanding, said coach Kim Thomas, adding that the team posted an overall pass rating of 1.94. Thomas said the Highlanders have and#8220;some very strong players,and#8221; and that the Wolverines were pleased to win the match.
