Prep volleyball: North Tahoe, Truckee blast 4A opponents

The Truckee High volleyball team routed visiting North Valleys in three games on Tuesday, 25-4, 25-5, 25-18.

“It was not a very exciting match,” Truckee coach Nicole Annaloro said of the nonleague win.

The Wolverines improved to 18-5 overall and remain 3-1 in Northern 3A league play.

Senior Michelle Hoehn led the Wolverines with eight kills, and seniors Nikki Schneider and Callan Finney each finished with seven kills. Finney added five service aces and 11 digs, while junior libero Kaylee Waters had 17 digs.

Up next: Truckee hosts five straight league matches starting with Sparks on Tuesday and ending with Dayton on Oct. 21. Weekday matches start at 6 p.m.

The Lakers defeated visiting Hug in three games Tuesday before dropping a match in four games at Portola on Wednesday.

Both matches were nonleague. The Lakers remain 5-1 in Northern 2A league play and are 9-8 overall.

North Tahoe breezed past 4A Hug, winning 25-8, 25-14, 25-20. Seniors Kayla Baumgardner and Sydney Courcier led the Lakers with nine kills apiece, while senior Arielle Younger added seven kills.

Portola defeated North Tahoe in four games after the Lakers won the opener.

“They’re a pretty strong team,” North Tahoe coach Tom LeFevers said of Portola. “We played well in the first game but then kind of let down a little bit, and they took advantage of that.”
