Prep volleyball | Wolverines, Lakers wrap up regular seasons

The Wolverines ended the regular season with a high-energy win in straight sets, 25-11, 25-12, 25-16, against visiting South Tahoe on senior night Friday.
Top-seeded Truckee, which finished 10-0 in the Mount Rose League and 28-4 overall during the regular season, will host second-seeded Lowry of the Ruby Mountain League in a Northern 3A Regional Playoffs match on Friday. The match starts at 6 p.m.
In other regional playoff matches, No. 1-seeded Dayton of the Lahontan League hosts South Tahoe, which earned the second seed from the Mount Rose League, on Friday, while top-seeded Elko of the Ruby Mountain League hosts Fernley (No. 2 Lahontan) on Saturday.
Winners of all three regional matches advance to the 3A State Championship, which will be held at Galena and Bishop Manogue high schools on Nov. 12-13.
On Friday, Truckee fed off a large and enthusiastic crowd to earn the easy win against South Tahoe.
Kiersten Knoppel led the Wolverines’ serving game, finishing with four aces and 20 total serves, while senior setter Jillian Akers added four aces and Krysta Murphy two aces. Senior Annie Reiswig posted a match-high 12 kills. Murphy and senior Allison Costa each had seven kills and Knoppel and Kristina Tirman had five kills apiece.

Senior libero Natalya Jones had a solid match passing, finishing with a rating of 2.25 for her 21 passes. Brittany Thomas had the next highest number of passes with 20.
The Wolverines moved five players up from JV to add depth as they enter the postseason seeking back-to-back state titles.
The Lakers lost in five games, 8-25, 25-22, 14-25, 22-25, in their senior farewell match against Whittell on Friday.
North Tahoe will compete in the Northern 2A Regional Championship tournament at Yerington High School on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 5-6.
The NIAA scheduled a meeting on Monday to decide the seeding for the tournament. Check the NIAA website at http://www.niaa.com for an updated bracket after the meeting.
