Staff report

The Wolverines will be well represented in both the team and individual Division I-A tennis state championship tournaments.

After the Truckee boys and girls had earned top seeds in the team state championship, Truckee's doubles partners of Teagan Pado and Ethan Gotts and Brandon Flora and Eli Yale advanced to the individual state championship, while on the girls' side, Truckee's Emmy Downing and Annie Guerra qualified in doubles and Aimee LaGrandeur advanced in singles.

Pado and Gotts will carry the North's No. 2 seed into the individual championship after finishing runner-up at regionals on Friday. Pado and Gotta advanced past the first round by way of a bye. They defeated Barnett/Tenoceloti of South Tahoe, 6-0, 6-1, in the quarterfinals and Flora/Yale, 6-2, 6-2, in the semis.

That set up a regional championship match against Incline's Miles Prim and Cole Steinberg. In a hard-fought match, Prim, who is a nationally ranked singles player, and Steinberg emerged victorious, 6-4, 7-5.

Flora and Yale, meanwhile, defeated Fallon's Delugg/Sabatino, 6-1, 6-2, in the first round and South Tahoe's Petrogalio/Kortge, 6-0, 6-0, in the quarterfinals before falling to their Truckee teammates in the semis. Flora and Yale then edged Fallon's Tyler Wood and Martin Beyer, 7-5, 6-7, 6-4, in the third-place match.

In girls doubles action, Downing and Guerra will compete as a No. 4 seed at state after defeating Incline's Scarpulla/Buchewicz, 6-0, 6-1, in the opening round and then getting past South Tahoe's Smith/Sandburn, 6-1, 6-4, in the quarterfinals. Downing and Guerra then lost 6-2, 6-0 to Fallon's Izzy Martinez and Melanie Nuckolis in the third-place match.
