Smith, Redfern propel Incline past North Tahoe

The Class 2A battle for the lake went down on Tuesday night, Jan. 30, and after 36 minutes of action, the Incline boys' basketball team took home a 55-50 victory over rivals North Tahoe.
The game was originally scheduled to be played at North Tahoe High School, but do to issues with the school's gym the contest was moved to Incline.
The Highlanders opened the night by outscoring the Lakers 12-3, as North Tahoe struggled to find the range from the field.
North Tahoe would play much better in the next period, matching Incline with 14 points during the quarter to go into the locker room down 26-17.
The Highlanders extended their lead to 12 in the third quarter, but the Lakers stormed back behind a 13-2 run to open the fourth quarter. Junior Liam Nolan-Bowers would then sink a pair of free throws for Incline, which was followed by bucket from junior Mathew Cornell. North Tahoe responded with a 3-pointer, but junior Ian Smith sealed the game from the free throw line, hitting 4 of 4 in the final moments of the contest to give Incline the win.
The Highlanders were again without leading scorer, senior Will Stranzl. Smith stepped up big in Stranzl's absence with 22 points. Nolan-Bowers finishded the night with 10, and junior Johnny Redfern scored 9 points. Cornell led the team with 10 rebounds, including seven offensive boards.

Incline has now won two straight games dating back to last Saturday's 69-49 win over White Pine.
Incline (8-14, 5-6 Northern League) will next face Silver Stage (6-14, 1-10 Northern League) at home on Friday, Feb. 2.
The Incline girls' basketball team bounced back from a 38-30 loss to White Pine on Saturday, by blowing out North Tahoe 72-26.
Junior Taylor Redfern was tremendous from beyond the arc, burying seven, 3-pointers during the game for a game-high 21 points.
Sophomores Madison Corneil and Sami Giangreco, and junior Ava Laurie were also hot from the 3-point line, combing for another seven triples on the night. Corneil finished her game with 13 points on 5 of 8 shooting and Giangreco added 12 points. Laurie and junior Chandler Cohn each finished with eight points. Sophomore Kate Tong led the team with seven rebounds, while junior Carolyn Eppolitio and Redfern each finished with four steals.
Incline (10-10, 5-6 Northern League) will next travel to face Silver Stage (7-7, 4-7 Northern League) on Friday, Feb. 2.
