Far West Skiing will host its fifth annual Fall Gala and Fundraiser at the Mt. Judah Lodge at Sugar Bowl Ski Resort on Saturday, Oct. 21, from 5:30-9 p.m. World Cup winner and former Tahoe junior racer Daron Rahlves, as well as several former Olympians who reside in the Tahoe area, are expected to attend. A live and silent auction will be held throughout the evening, featuring thousands of dollars in ski gear and accessories, as well as major live auction items including a California Skiing Gold Pass, Ski Lake Tahoe 8 Packs, Sugarwood Pass and more. Tickets are $35 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under and may be purchased in advance by contacting Desiree Walker at the Far West Skiing office at (775) 345-6333 or desiree@fwskiing.org. Tickets will also be available at the door beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The Sierra Clubs 15th annual Run Through the Colors 5K and 10K run with a 5K walk through historic Nevada City will take place on Sunday, Oct. 22, starting at 8:30 a.m. from Pioneer Park. With more than 500 participants expected, this years race promises to be the largest yet. Pre-registration is open through Oct. 13 and is $20. Day-of-race entrants pay $5 more. Club Truckee volleyball sign-ups will be held at Alder Creek Middle School on Oct. 24 from 6:30-8 p.m. All parents and players interested in the 2007 season need to attend. There will be critical information regarding club volleyball and tryouts. For questions contact Kim Thomas at 582-1308.

Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort will be holding a Halloween Rail Session and movie premiere at the Village at Northstar on Oct. 31 from 49 p.m. Hosted by Northstar-at-Tahoe Resorts terrain park staff, the Rail Session will take place near True North and will feature rails designed by Snow Park Technologies (SPT). Oakley will present the film debut of Show & Prove, hosted by professional skier and Truckee resident C.R. Johnson, featuring himself and Tanner Hall. Filmed over a six-month period during the 2005-06 winter season, the film documents some of the struggles Johnson and Hall encountered during the season. Sponsored athletes Seth Morrison, Skogan Sprang, Johnson and Hall will also be signing posters next to 001, an Oakley Concept Shop inside the Village at Northstar.

This years fundraiser for the Far West Nordic Ski Association will be held at the North Tahoe Convention Center in Kings Beach on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 6 p.m. Auction and raffle prizes will include ski equipment and outdoor gear, prizes from local cross-country ski areas, bike shops and restaurants and a grand prize Dream Ski Package from Salomon, Swix and Fischer worth more than $1,200. The event is Far West Nordics largest fundraiser for its Junior Nordic programs. Tickets are available from local Junior racers or by contacting the Far West Office at 587-0304 or info@farwestnordic.org. The 29th annual Turkey Trot, a 7.5-mile run around Donner Lake to benefit the Auburn Ski Club Junior Nordic Program, and the new Mash Potato Mile will be held on Nov. 12. Race Registration is at 9 a.m. at the West End Beach parking lot, with the race beginning at 10:30 a.m. Registration is a suggested donation of $10 for adults and $5 for kids. There will be a drawing for turkeys, pies and other fun stuff after the race, as well as refreshments. No dogs. Strollers welcome. For more information call (800) 896-5033 or 426 3313, ext. 110.

T-N-T Explosion All Star Gym is offering more than ongoing 10 tumbling classes. Classes are Monday through Saturday for boys and girls ages 1 to 18. Tumbling classes are beginner to intermediate.
