Tahoe snowboarders represent at North Face Masters comp

Tahoe athletes made their presence felt with a number of top finishes in the first stop of The North Face Masters of Snowboarding big-mountain tour at Snowbird, Utah, this past weekend.

Riding in fresh snow conditions on Snowbirdand#8217;s North Baldy venue, six male snowboarders from Tahoeand#8217;s north shore finished among the top 10 amid a competitive field that included Travis Rice and Rob Kingwill.

Alaska native Ryland Bell, who rides out of Squaw Valley, finished runner-up to Mark Carter of Jackson Hole, while Squawand#8217;s Ralph Backstrom took third place just ahead of Kingwill.

Squaw Valley riders Ross Baker and Christopher Galvin finished fifth and sixth, respectively, Ryan Egan of Squaw was eighth and Dylan Thompson, who claims Alpine Meadows as his home resort, was ninth. Rice tied for 11th.

On the womenand#8217;s side, Shannon Yates of Snowbird won, while Squaw Valleyand#8217;s Iris Lazzareschi placed sixth.
