Top biathletes compete in Chuck Lyda Memorial Race
February 18, 2016
A field of 70 athletes competed in the Chuck Lyda Memorial Biathlon at the Auburn Ski Club in persistently windy conditions this past Sunday.
The event featured pro/elite, novice and youth divisions.
U.S. Biathlon Development Team member and Auburn Ski Club (ASC) athlete Patrick Johnson, 26, topped the podium in the 15K men's pro/elite division with a time of 51:17.9.
ASC's Peter Carroll, 18, a U.S. Youth World Biathlon Team member, was close on Johnson's heels in second place. Far West Master Biathlete Dave Eastwood rounded out the division's podium in 57:46.3.
"I was so excited to have Patrick here for this race," said ASC Biathlon Program Director and coach Glenn Jobe. "We're delighted that a break in his racing and training schedule from World Cup events in Europe coincided with our Lyda event.
"Having Peter Carroll here too, after recently returning from the World Junior Biathlon Championships in Romania, was also very special."
