Submitted PhotoTruckee senior Tony Buranzon pitched a complete-game shutout in a 13-0 win against North Tahoe on Wednesday.

The Truckee baseball team flexed its muscles with a doubleheader sweep against North Tahoe by a combined score of 28-2 on Wednesday.

The Wolverines won 15-2 and 13-0 to improve to 2-0 in Mount Rose League play and 4-4 overall. The Lakers, who were previously undefeated, fell to 0-2 in league and 6-2 overall.

Senior starting pitchers Steven Baker and Tony Buranzon each earned a win in impressive fashion for the Wolverines. Neither pitcher allowed a run, as Baker held the Lakers hitless through four innings before coming out, and Buranzon gave up only two hits while striking out five in five innings. He needed only 60 pitches to get through his outing.

In Game 1, Truckee took a commanding 7-0 lead in the top of the first inning off of North Tahoe starter Colin Spencer, who had not given up a run in nine-plus innings previously.

Truckee added a run in the third and another in the fourth and fifth off of reliever Shane Christian before posting five in the sixth to end the game on the 10-run rule.

The Lakers got on the board with a run in the fifth and another in the sixth off of Brandon Deeter, who replaced Baker after his four scoreless innings.

Truckee had 14 hits to the Lakers’ four, led by Aaron Pado’s 2-for-3 performance with a double and five RBIs. Truckee senior Trevor Auldridge went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, while Baker had two hits, Luke Theis had two hits and an RBI, and Buranzon had two hits. Andy McKechnie, Travis Ferre, Ryan Smith and Ty Englert each had one hit for the Wolverines.

Spencer led the Lakers at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double, while Brendon Arnold and Mychal Paschall each delivered a hit and RBI.

In Game 2, the Wolverines chased Arnold in the second inning en route to the big win. They scored three runs in the first and seven in the second, charging Arnold with nine earned runs (10 total) in an inning and a third. Wildon DesLauriers relieved him and allowed four runs the final three and two-thirds innings as the game ended after five.

Truckee had 13 hits, with Baker going 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs, Stein Retzlaff going 2-for-2 with a double and RBI, and Auldridge going 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Jackson Rohlf contributed two hits and an RBI, Max Collinson, Ferre and Smith each had a hit and RBI, and Brooks Hudson had a double.

Spencer hit a double for the Lakers and Alex Tyler had a single.
