Truckee baseball, softball | Wolverines earn No. 2 seeds in postseason

The Truckee baseball team will hit the road to face Dayton in a best-of-three Northern 3A playoff series on Friday and Saturday, May 13 and 14.

Truckee enters the postseason as the No. 2 seed from the Mount Rose League, at 8-4. Dayton, at 12-2 in league, is the top seed from the Lahontan League.

Game 1 of the series is scheduled for Friday at 3:30 p.m. The series continues Saturday at 10 a.m. and, if necessary, 1 p.m.

In the only matchup between the two teams this season, back on April 2, Dayton won a pitchers’ duel, 2-1.

In other 3A playoff series, top-seeded Sparks (9-2) of the Mount Rose League hosts Lowry (12-3), the No. 2 seed from the Ruby Mountain League, while top-seeded Elko (13-2) of the Ruby Mountain League hosts second-seeded Fallon (11-3) of the Lahontan League.

Winners advance to the state championship tournament in Las Vegas the following weekend.

The Truckee softball team, meanwhile, also enters the postseason as the No. 2 seed from the Mount Rose League.

The girls will play at top-seeded Fallon of the Lahontan League in a best-of-three series Friday and Saturday, May 13 and 14.

Truckee, which won 11 straight games until South Tahoe snapped the streak with a walk-off victory this past Friday, finished the regular season 9-3 in league. Fallon was 11-1.

Friday’s Game 1 starts at 4 p.m. Game times are 10 a.m. and, if necessary, noon on Saturday.

In other playoff action, South Tahoe, which earned the top seed from the Mount Rose League with a 9-2 league record, will host second-seeded Spring Creek (11-4) of the Ruby Mountain League, while top-seeded Elko (12-3) of the Ruby Mountain League hosts second-seeded Fernley (8-2) of the Lahontan League.
