Truckee baseball: Wolverines beat Yerington in league opener

The Truckee High baseball team began Northern 3A league play with an 8-1 win against Yerington on Wednesday.

Senior staff ace Maclane Brady picked up the win, striking out eight in five innings while allowing two hits, no walks and one unearned run. Junior Ben Bolton struck out two and did not allow a hit in two innings of scoreless relief.

Senior captains Jordan Deiro and Brian Matthew led the Wolverines at the plate, as Deiro went 2 for 4 with a home run and Matthew was 2 for 3 with two RBI.

Matt Theis was 1 for 2 with a triple and two RBIs, Tanner Churich was 1 for 1 with a double and an RBI, Morgan Nevin 1 for 1 with a double, and James DePew 2 for 4. Brady and Jared McDonnell also had a hit for Truckee.

The Wolverines were 3 for 3 in stolen bases.
