Truckee baseball | Wolverines routed at Bishop Manogue

The Truckee baseball team got roughed up 26-5 in a nonleague game against 4A Bishop Manogue in poor weather conditions Friday.

Truckee head coach Mike Ellis said the Wolverines were saving their top pitchers for Saturday’s league-opening doubleheader against North Tahoe, which wound up being rained out. Those games will be made up Wednesday in Carson City, Ellis said.

Bishop Manogue (7-1 overall) jumped all over Truckee (2-4) with a 13-run first inning. The Miners added four runs in the second inning, four more in the third and five in the fourth, while the Wolverines got on the board with a run in the second and four in the fifth.

Truckee had six hits in the game, one apiece by Luke Theis, Stein Retzlaff, Andy McKechnie, Aaron Pado, Jackson Rohlf and Brooks Hudson. Theis, McKechnie and Pado each had a double, while Retzlaff drove in two runs and Theis, McKechnie and Pado each drove in one.

The Miners hit four home runs in the game and#8212; two off the bat of Patrick Hinojosa and#8212; and drew nine walks while amassing 18 hits in the five-inning affair.
