Weather permitting, Truckee will host a three-game league series against Dayton on Friday (2 p.m., 4 p.m.) and Saturday (11 a.m.). The Wolverines will then end their season with a pair of makeup games at Elko on Monday.

The Truckee baseball team picked up its fourth league win in high-scoring fashion, 12-10, at Sparks on Tuesday.

“We played a good game. Pretty much everybody hit the ball,” said Truckee coach J.R. Murphy, whose club improved to 4-15 in the Northern Division I-A with five league games remaining.

With the win Truckee took the three-game season series against the Railroaders (1-20 league) by a count of two games to one.

Tuesday’s game was offensive from the start, with both teams scoring three runs in the first inning. After a two-run second inning for Sparks, the Wolverines took over the lead for good with a four-run third. Truckee added a run in the fourth, and two runs apiece in the fifth and sixth.

Sparks made things interesting with a run in the fifth and four more in the sixth to pull to within two. But Truckee senior reliever Connor Bullion closed the door on the comeback attempt with five consecutive strikeouts to end the game, Murphy said.

While Truckee stats were not available, Murphy said Jack Englert tripled and Miles Guiragossian had a pair of doubles. Bruce Hicks homered and had two RBIs for Sparks, while Hunter Nobbs had two doubles and two RBIs, and Elijah Shelton drove in two runs on two hits.

Murphy was pleased to see pitcher Will Beldon start on the mound for the first time after suffering an arm injury at the start of the season. Bradley VanSchoonhoven and JJ Bellon also pitched for the Wolverines.
