Truckee basketball: Girls improve to 2-1, boys fall in opener
December 4, 2008
The Truckee boys dropped their season opener 66-56 at 4A Wooster on Tuesday night.
“We gave it away in the first half,” said first-year Truckee head coach Mike Hoehn. “We settled down much better in the second half.”
Truckee pulled to within five points in the fourth quarter, but the Colts held off the late run to secure the win.
Junior Matt Mehan led Truckee scorers with 12 points, and was followed by Flynn Rice with 10 points.
“It was a good stepping stone for us,” Hoehn said. “Matchup-wise, we matched up just fine. We just had too many turnovers and weren’t executing. We played well defensively, but we fell short on the offensive end.”
While the coach expected to see some early-season rust from his team, especially on offense, he was pleased with the Wolverines’ 38 rebounds in the game. Matt Hoehn and Rice combined for 21 of those boards, with Matt Hoehn finishing with 11 rebounds and Rice with 10.
