Former Truckee High basketball standout Aleigh Krug has joined the Academy of Art University women's basketball team in San Francisco after transferring from Portland State.
Krug, an incoming sophomore, received a scholarship out of high school to play at Portland State, where she struggled with injuries and illness her freshman season, according to LaNay Larson, head women's basketball coach at the Academy of Art University.
Larson said the Urban Knights are thrilled with their new addition, as Krug, at 6 foot 3, brings an impressive combination of size and skill. She will become the tallest player in school history when she suits up.
"Aleigh was an unexpected surprise that we feel very fortunate to be able to welcome to the Urban Knight family," Larson said. "Our roster was essentially set, but when Aleigh was granted her release we felt like she was definitely someone who could come in and add great size and strength to our post position.
"After spending her freshman year battling injuries and illness, we are excited to see her healthy and ready to dominate the paint. We are very excited to be able to add a student-athlete of her caliber to a team we feel has the pieces to make some great things happen this year."
Krug dominated her final two seasons at Truckee, earning first team All-State and All-League honors both her junior and senior seasons. She also made first team All-League and second team All-State as a sophomore.
