Truckee basketball | Wolverines fall to Greenwave, Buckaroos

The Truckee boys and girls basketball teams both lost a pair of league games this past weekend. The boys fell 57-42 against visiting Fallon on Friday and 49-37 at Lowry on Saturday, and the girls lost 48-33 to Fallon and 51-27 at Lowry.

Truckee's girls (3-9 league, 5-12 overall) played the second-place Greenwave (10-2, 13-7) tough, trailing 13-7 after one quarter and 18-12 at the half. Fallon used a 22-15 third quarter to create some distance, then outscored the Wolverines 8-6 in the fourth to secure the win.

Junior guard Sydney Mock led Truckee with 12 points, with three 3-pointers, while Katie Fisher scored nine points, Maddie Monson and Shelby Brooks each had four, and Adela Ortiz and Isabella Abarno each had two.

Ali Tedford and Megan McCormick scored 16 and 15 points, respectively, to lead the Greenwave.

The Wolverines struggled get going offensively at first-place Lowry (12-0, 17-4), and the Buckaroos took advantage as they jumped out to a 21-5 lead by the end of the first quarter. Truckee bounced back to outscore Lowry 8-7 in the second quarter. But the hosts scored 14 points to Truckee's three in the third quarter to pull away.

Mock finished with eight points, Fisher and Ortiz each had six, Brooks had three, and Abarno and Marcelle Reynaud each had two.

The Truckee boys (2-10, 4-16) got off to a promising start against Fallon (7-5, 10-11), matching the visitors point-for-point through one quarter. The Greenwave outscored the Wolverines 19-12 in the second quarter and, after an evenly matched third quarter, scored 13 points to Truckee's seven in the fourth.

Senior Jeff Evett scored 20 points to lead Fallon, and Clay Davison added 14.

The Wolverines got off to an even better start at second-place Lowry (10-2, 15-7), as they jumped out to a 13-5 lead in the first quarter. The Buckaroos took over the momentum after that, however. They went on a 21-3 run in the second quarter and outscored Truckee 19-6 in the third quarter.

Junior Omar Guerrero scored 20 points to lead the Buckaroos, and Nathan Lutzow had 14.

Truckee has four league games remaining. The Wolverines host Spring Creek this Friday, girls at 6 p.m. and boys at 7:30, and Elko on Saturday, girls at 1 p.m. and boys at 2:30. The Wolverines then play at Dayton on Feb. 10 and end the season with a home game against Fernley on Feb. 14.
