Truckee cyclist wins state champs road race

Jonathan Laine of Truckee and the It's The Law Masters Cycling Team took first place in the 55-plus category of the California State Championship road race over the weekend.

Truckee's Jonathan Laine of the It's The Law Masters Cycling Team won the California State Championship road race in the 55-plus category at Turlock Lake, Calif., this past Saturday.

This 46-mile road race was held in windy conditions, with 58 riders competing for the top prize for masters road cyclist in the state.

Laine caught a four-rider breakaway speeding to the finish in the penultimate mile of the race. Laine's teammate, Tracy Muegge, towed Laine to the finish line at speeds of 30 mph.

It's The Law Masters Cycling Team is a Truckee-based team that was founded in 2014 to bring awareness to safe passing laws. Team members include Laine, Muegge, Kevin Willlitts, Bob Montague, Dave Montgomery, Jess Raphael and Douglas Gonda.
