After a 9-3 season, a trip to the Class 3A Northern League semifinals, and a number of standout performances, several members of the Truckee football team have been selected as among the best out of the Class 3A Northern League.

At a listed 5 feet, 10 inches, and 210 pounds, senior Andrew Parkhurst exemplified the Truckee offensive line this season. Parkhurst was often undersized, but technique and toughness against his larger opponents was a big reason the Wolverines ran for more than 3,000 yards and averaged 260.5 yards on the ground per game. For his play this season Parkhurst was named to the first-team all league list.

Also fighting in the trenches and earning second-team all league honors was junior guard Kevin Contreras.

Throughout the season senior Jamie Parisi was a highlight machine, often gashing defenses for long runs or hooking up with junior quarterback Marcus Bellon for big plays. Parisi scored a team-high 16 touchdowns this season, caught 39 passes for 709 yards, and carried the ball 60 times for 554 yards and three touchdowns. For his efforts this year, Parisi was named first-team all league.

Throughout the season senior Jamie Parisi was a highlight machine, often gashing defenses for long runs or hooking up with junior quarterback Marcus Bellon for big plays.

Parisi was also named second-team all league for his work in the Truckee secondary. He finished the year with three forced fumbles, an interception, and was third on the team in tackles with 66.

Also on offense, Bellon was named second-team all league for quarterback. Bellon completed 114 of 191 pass attempts for 1,805 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He also carried the ball 82 times for 375 yards and six rushing touchdowns.

Playing linebacker at Truckee automatically puts a player in company with some of the school’s greatest football players, and this year senior Michael Doughty added to the Wolverines’ legacy at the position, posting a team-high 83 tackles to earn first team-all league honors.

Along the defensive line, junior Marcus Trotter was a player quarterbacks had to pay close attention to. Still, Trotter would usually beat the offense for at least one sack during Truckee’s games. He’d plant opposing quarterbacks in seven of Truckee’s 11 games, including a three-sack performance against South Tahoe in the regular season finale. Trotter finished the year with 10 sacks and was named first-team all league.

Truckee’s leader in the secondary, senior Cole Eichele, finished the year second on the squad with 76 tackles, including a team-high 51 solo tackles. Eichele was also second on the team with three interceptions and for his play this past season, was named first-team all league. Eichele was also named second-team all league at running back. He rushed for a team-high 670 yards on 104 carries, and scored two rushing touchdowns.

Truckee junior kicker Emmanuel Valenzuela-Jones scored the team’s final honors as a second-team all league selection. Valenzuela-Jones knocked in four field goals, including a long of 40 yards against Sparks. Statistics provided by MaxPreps.com.

In other football news, the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA) released its proposed league alignments for the 2018-20 football seasons.

Truckee will likely see a new foe in Class 3A Northern League play with Reno-area high school North Valleys slated to drop from Class 4A down to Class 3A. North Valleys is 13-62 since 2010. Wooster is also scheduled to return to Class 4A, and will no longer be part of Truckee’s league schedule.

Realignment will be voted on when the NIAA meets on Jan. 17-18 in Reno.
