Truckee girls cross country takes 2nd in Folsom; boys finish 14th

TRUCKEE, Calif. — The Truckee cross-country teams enjoyed great success in their first of five sea level competitions last weekend.
The girls team placed second in a field of 23 teams while the boys finished 14th among a large field of 38 teams at the 12th annual Josh Ruff Memorial Trojan Invitational in Folsom.
"This is our first meet getting off the hill and running the true distance of 5K," Truckee coach Rob McClendon said. "The girls placed second against a very good Vacaville team. We still have some work to do but the training is really starting to pay off and we will be now start some speed work, which should translate to faster times at sea level."
All five scorers on the girls team placed in the top 30 in a field of 210 runners. Brenna Wapstra-Scott steered the Wolverines with a seventh-place time of 20 minutes, 16 seconds.
She was followed by Carrie Bradley in 12th (20:32), Isabella Terrazas in 16th (20:45), Claire Lang-Ree in 24th (21:23) and Lily Robertson in 30th (21:33).
The Truckee boys team raced in the largest field of the day, with 293 runners. All scorers placed in the top half of the field. Ian Smith led the charge with a 35th-place finish (17:54), followed by Calin Laine in 41st (18:01), Ids Propstra in 123rd (19:53), Tyler Ferrera in 124th (19:54) and Harry Rodriguez in 135th (20:12).

Three of the five scorers are sophomores.
"The younger boys have really stepped up and placed well in their first varsity meet," McClendon said.
Next up for the Wolverines is a home meet, the Truckee Invitational, to be held at the Alder Creek Adventure Center in Tahoe Donner on Saturday. Middle school races start at 9 a.m., followed by high school races at 10 a.m.
