The Truckee High girls basketball team improved to 4-0 in Northern 3A league play and 10-3 overall with a 51-26 rout at Sparks on Wednesday.
Wolverines head coach Angelo Tenorio said Truckee got off to a slow start in the opening quarter, allowing the Railroaders to connect on several 3-point baskets right away.
The Truckee girls stepped up their defensive intensity in the second quarter and gave up only two points, the coach said.
“We settled down and were able to deny (the Railroaders) from scoring in the second quarter. We pretty much pulled away from there,” Tenorio said, adding that Sparks scored just four points in the third quarter.
Senior point guard Kelly Stephens led Truckee in scoring with 18 points. Lindsay Holt scored nine points and pulled down nine rebounds, Breanne Busby had seven points and seven rebounds, and Melanie Lashbrook and Morgan Womack chipped in five points apiece. Lashbrook had a team-high 15 rebounds.
