Truckee girls win, boys tie Sparks in soccer match

The Truckee High boys soccer team played to a 1-1 tie at Sparks on Tuesday.

The Wolverines are now 7-1-1 in the Northern 3A Sierra League and 13-2-1 overall.

Sparks opened up the scoring about 20 minutes into the first half after stripping the ball from a Truckee defender.

Truckee sophomore Max Brixey tied the game near the end of the second half on a free kick from about 45 yards out in which Sal Tejeda flicked the ball back for Brixey to finish.

Sparks came out with energy, and despite many scoring opportunities, Truckee was unable to finish.

The Wolverines host Yerington on Friday at 4 p.m.

The Truckee High girls soccer team out-shot Sparks, 42-2, on the road Tuesday en route to an 8-0 victory.

The win over the Northern 3A Sierra League opponent kept the Wolverines’ undefeated league record intact at 9-0 (13-2 overall).

Senior midfielder Mimi Precit scored Truckee’s first goal less than two minutes into the match on an assist from Stephanie O’Neil. Precit then put the Wolverines on top, 2-0, on an assist from Alexis Fallow after 13 minutes minutes of play.

Sophomore forward Katie Dill scored the next goal unassisted, and Nicole Oxandaboure put in Truckee’s fourth goal of the first half on an assist from Addie Shaffer.

Three minutes into the second half, sophomore Bernie Nelson got in on the scoring action, and Dill followed with her second goal 57 minutes into the match.

Senior Clancy Delforge scored next on an assist from Dill and Addie Shaffer capped the scoring with an unassisted goal with two minutes remaining in the match.

Despite a narrow field, the Wolverines spread out well and played great one-two touch passes, said Truckee head coach Amy Valdivia. –

Shaffer, Nikki Panziera and Emily Gannam played solid defense, the coach added, while Michelle Plapp and Rachel Greenbach preserved the shutout.

The Wolverines host North Tahoe on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 2 p.m.
