Truckee, North Tahoe XC headed to State

Courtesy Kevin CliffordHanna Casares led the Truckee girls with a seventh-place finish in the Northern 3A Divisional meet on Thursday.

All four North Tahoe and Truckee High cross country teams qualified for their respective State Championships at the Northern Nevada Divisional meets Thursday.

Competing against the Northern 3A, Truckee’s boys placed fourth and the girls third, while both North Tahoe teams took third in the Northern 2A qualifier. The top four teams qualified for State.

Truckee’s boys posted an average time of 20:57.40 in the 5-kilometer race ” all 2A and 3A runs were the same distance. Lowry captured the top spot as a team with an average time of 18:38. Spring Creek was second and Dayton third.

Individually on the boys’ side, Tyler Brooks led the Wolverines with a time of 19:16. Ben Stephens of Spring Creek won in 17:27. Brooks was followed by teammates Kevin Lufkin, who took 20th in 20:46, Kyle Jorgensen (25th, 21:03), Zeke Vandehei (29th, 21:50), Nik Ratiner (30th, 21:52), and Cameron Montano (48th, 27:05).

North Tahoe’s boys posted an average time of 18:43.60 to Sierra Lutheran’s winning time of 17:55.80. Whittell (18.49) was second and Incline (19:33) fourth.

Carson Clark led the Lakers individually, placing 11th in 18:28. Wade Meddles of Sierra Lutheran won the race with a time of 16:25. Trailing Clark were teammates Hugo Ramirez, who took 12th in 18:31, Miles Heapes (13th, 18:35), Tom McElravey (16th, 18:48), Luke Funicella (21st, 19:16), John Baker (26th, 19:57), and Griffin Lancaster (34th, 20:27).

On the girls’ side, Truckee posted an average time of 24:37.60. Lowry won in 23:25.

Hanna Casares was the first Truckee finisher, taking seventh with a time of 23:15 to Spring Creek runner Kristin Rampton’s winning time of 21:27. Carly Chisserath finished one spot behind Casares in 24:07, while teammates Heather Mort was 11th in 24:33, Fenja Haas 16th in 25:15, Annie Rodriguez 20th in 25:58, Brooke Griffin 23rd in 26:31, and Kayla Cole 33rd in 30:30.

The Laker girls posted an average time of 24:48.20. Sage Ridge captured the top spot in 22:19.60.

Individually, Sierra Postler came in sixth place in 22:34 for North Tahoe’s best finish. Claire Kelley of Sage Ridge won with a time of 20:40. Postler was followed by teammates Maiya Greenwood (18th, 24:37), Nicole Ramm (21st, 25:20), Carlie Postler (22nd, 25:29), Amber Postler (26th, 26:01), Julia Levy (27th, 26:28), and Cassidy Curtin (35th, 28:21).
