December 15, 2015
A group of 12 Truckee Racing Club runners competed in the USATF Cross Country Junior Olympics series held in November and December.
The series begins at the district level bringing together runners and teams from Northern California and Nevada. The District JO meet was held in Folsom on Nov. 22 and was the first step in qualifying for the National Junior Olympics.
To qualify to advance to the regional meet, runners need a top-30 finish, and the top five teams advance. The USATF Region 14 (central and Northern California) JO meet held was held in Fresno on Nov. 29.
Qualifying individuals and teams at the regional meet became eligible to compete in the National Junior Olympics, which this year was held in Albuquerque, N.M.
In the district JO meet, Truckee's Montana Montgomery competed in the Boys 13-14 event, placing 37th in a very competitive field with an impressive time of 14:18.4 on the 4K course.
Truckee teammate Isabella Terrazas placed 14th in the Girls 13-14 event with a time of 15:02.9, which qualified her to compete in the USATF Region 14 meet in Fresno.
