Truckee soccer | Boys dominate visiting Highlanders

TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; The Wolverines increasingly dominated their Sierra League game against visiting Incline as it wore on Tuesday, scoring four goals in the second half en route to a 6-0 victory.
Truckee, which sits in second place behind undefeated Sparks, improved to 6-1 in Sierra League play while Incline fell to 3-4-1.
Senior forward Johnny Zarate led the offensive attack, notching a hat trick with three goals scored and one assist. Even the two new junior varsity call-ups got in on the action, as Thomas Arnstein flashed his skills by burning an Incline defender and scoring the sixth and final goal late in the second half.
and#8220;I’m am happy, especially with our two new JV players,and#8221; said Truckee head coach Casey Eberhardt, referring also to Alic Funk. and#8220;It was good to get them some touches today, which will help them get used to the varsity level.and#8221;
Jose Sarabia put the Wolverines on the board after a scoreless opening 12 minutes when he gathered a nice through ball from Nash McMullen and slotted it past Incline keeper Drew Bessette.
Three minutes later, Zarate scored his first goal in impressive fashion. The speedy senior stole the ball from an Incline defender before beating Bessette to his right and then kicking in a tough angled shot into the side netting.

Truckee carried the 2-0 lead into the half.
and#8220;I think we played probably the best we have to this point,and#8221; Zarate said. and#8220;We were all talking and doing runs and#8212; all the things we work on in practice and#8212; and that helped us get through their defense.and#8221;
Zarate struck again five minutes into the second half on a breakaway, assisted by Rubin Diaz. Colten Rodrigue then scored a fourth goal in the 57th minute, benefiting from a run down the sideline by Nico Kuyper, who crossed it in to Rodrigue for the goal.
and#8220;Obviously we didn’t play very well,and#8221; said Incline head coach Tom Canino. and#8220;We were very flat in the second half. It was not a game that we want to repeat.and#8221;
Zarate added his third goal in the 69th minute when he followed up an attempted shot by Austin Simonpietri that was denied by a charging Bessette. Arnstein scored one minute later to round out the offense.
and#8220;We played very well as a team,and#8221; Eberhardt said. and#8220;I thought we kind of lost control of the center midfield for a few minutes there in the first half, so we need to clean that up and clean up our touches a little bit. But those are minor things. Overall, we played really well as a team.and#8221;
