Truckee soccer: Boys, girls rout Dust Devils

Truckee's boys and girls soccer teams rolled to lopsided victories against Dayton on Saturday — the girls by a score of 9-0 and the boys 8-1.

In the girls game, Zareli Villa scored the Wolverines' first three goals within the opening 20 minutes. Ava Seelenfreund added two goals, and Marley Simpson, Olivia Koster and Amber Simonpietri each scored one goal. Dayton also had an own goal.

Olivia Vigano contributed two assists, while Seelenfreund, Lydia Christian, Mia Winans, Sophie Curtis and Nicole Harris each had one assist. Truckee led 6-0 by the half.

The Wolverines improved to 13-1 entering Tuesday's league game at second-place South Tahoe (12-1-1).

In the boys game, junior Manuel Sarabia led the way with five goals and two assists as the Wolverines jumped out to a 4-0 halftime lead.

Joel Garcia, Zack Barta and Jose Gonzalez added a goal apiece, and Barta, Gonzalez and Oscar Ingnez each had an assist.

Jose Apolinar played goalie and finished with three saves in the absence of Gabriel Serna, who missed the game due to a family event.

The Wolverines improved to 9-4-1 in league, which moved them into third place after South Tahoe (7-1-6) had to forfeit a win. The Vikings forfeited their 1-0 win over Lowry on Oct. 16 because they used junior varsity players in both the JV and varsity matches that day.

The Truckee and South Tahoe boys squared off in Truckee on Tuesday.

Both Truckee teams will end the regular season with league games against Lowry on Thursday, with the boys playing on the road and the girls at home.

Top six teams advance to the Northern Division I-A regional championships, which will be held in Elko from Nov. 5-7. Top two from regionals advance to state, which will be held at South Tahoe on Nov. 13-14.
