Truckee soccer | Boys, girls win at Incline

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. and#8212; Kelsi Decker, Shauna Day and Serena Dill each scored two goals apiece while Michael Brixey contributed three goals to lead the Truckee girlsand#8217; and boysand#8217; soccer teams to victory at Incline on Tuesday.
Truckeeand#8217;s girls won 6-4 to improve to 6-0-1 in the Sierra League. The boys won 4-1 to improve to 6-1 in league.
There was no shortage of offense in first half of the girlsand#8217; game, as the league rivals traded goals back and forth before reaching the midway point in a 3-3 deadlock. The visiting Wolverines put the game away with three second-half goals to the Highlandersand#8217; one.
Day gave Truckee a 1-0 lead at the 4-minute mark when she scored unassisted on a breakaway. Incline (2-5-1) answered just 2 minutes later, as Kerri Tonking gathered a cross from Sophie Brieder and buried it to tie the score.
About 10 minutes into the game, Truckee again took the lead on a cross by Decker that ricocheted off an Incline defender and into the goal. But the lead vanished when Haley Derr scored the first of two long free kicks in the 25th minute. Derr sent a high-arcing shot over the outstretched reach of Truckee goalie Shannon Ondry from 40 yards out.
and#8220;We talked about not giving up silly fouls, which we did on those two free kicks,and#8221; said Truckee coach Amy Valdivia. and#8220;They were great shots. There was nothing (Ondry) could do about that.and#8221;

Dill then scored off a Decker assist before Incline once again pulled even on a goal by Emily Hanna, knotting the score at 3-3 at the half.
and#8220;I didnand#8217;t like the first half. I liked the second half,and#8221; Valdivia said. and#8220;But we never want to give up four goals, regardless of how many we score.and#8221;
Truckee extended its lead to 4-3 early in the second frame when Dill sent a through ball to Decker, who blasted a shot across her body and past Incline keeper Sarah Wright. Day then recorded her second goal of the game in the 54th minute off an assist by Olivia Duner, before Derr converted her second free kick, this time from about 30 yards out.
and#8220;Sheand#8217;s amazing,and#8221; Incline coach John Paganelli said of Derr, adding that the free-kick goals marked her fifth and sixth of the season. She also has two goals off penalty kicks, he said. and#8220;Sheand#8217;s a very good player.and#8221;
The Wolverines added a sixth and final goal in the 70th minute, as Dill followed up a blocked shot and booted it into the back of the vacated net.
and#8220;Incline always plays so good against us,and#8221; Decker said. and#8220;We always play really good games against each other. What I liked about this game is every time they scored, we came right back with our own score.and#8221;
In the boysand#8217; game, Brixey scored the first three goals before he had to leave early in the second half to take a college-prep test.
It wasnand#8217;t the same without him, as Incline settled in and went to work on the Truckee end of the field after the Wolverines had controlled the entire first half.
and#8220;You have to give a lot of credit to Incline,and#8221; said Truckee coach Hernan Valdivia. and#8220;They didnand#8217;t give up. They kept playing. Theyand#8217;ve shown a lot of improvementand#8221;
Brixey opened the scoring in the 15th minute when he got a head on the rebound of a blocked shot by Easel Grass, shooting it past Incline keeper Carlos Garcia. Brixey pushed the score to 2-0 after scoring on a through ball delivered by Jesse Fereira in the final minutes of the first half. He then added a third goal 30 seconds after the halftime break after collecting a through ball from Grass.
The Highlanders (1-6-1) scored their one goal in the 57th minute, as Sam Canino scored on a cross from Erick Rodriguez to shave the lead to 3-1.
Grass scored the final goal near the end of regulation when Garcia charged outside the goal to beat Truckeeand#8217;s Fernando Rodriguez, but then kicked it directly to Grass, who alertly sent the ball into the unguarded net.
and#8220;Weand#8217;re playing pretty well as a team right now,and#8221; Grass said.
