Truckee soccer | Girls heat up late in home win

Staff report

After a slow start, the Truckee girls soccer team defeated visiting Sparks 3-0 on Friday to improve to 4-0-2 in the Northern Division I-A.

The game remained scoreless through 70-plus minutes of play. Truckee finally took a 1-0 lead in the 73rd minute, then added two more goals before the end of regulation to secure the victory over the improved Railroaders, who fell to 1-5 in league and 1-8 overall.

Truckee's stats were not available. The game was moved to Alder Creek Middle School because of flooding on Truckee's home field.

The Wolverines, who had a couple of game rescheduled due to smoke from the King Fire, are now in third place in the league standings, trailing South Tahoe (7-0-1) and Spring Creek (6-1-1). Elko is fourth at 4-3-1.

In junior varsity action, meanwhile, the Truckee girls defeated Sparks 8-0 on Friday and Lowry 9-0 on Monday.

The Truckee varsity girls are scheduled to host Fallon on Saturday at noon.
