Truckee soccer: Girls win pair of weekend matches at Spring Creek, Elko
September 19, 2016
SPRING CREEK, Nev. — The Truckee girls soccer team got off to a fast start and never looked back in a 6-0 3A Northern win over Spring Creek on Friday.
The Lady Wolverines started the scoring as Amber Simonpietri was able to dribble her way into the box and score the opening goal of the game in the fourth minute.
Truckee came right back with another goal in the sixth minute as Ava Seelenfreund was able to finish on a cross to put her team up 2-0.
After problems at the back caused Spring Creek to quickly fall behind, Spring Creek was able to settle in defensively and limit Truckee's offense for the remainder of the first half.
At halftime, Lady Spartans head coach Kami Crowe told her team there was still plenty of time for them to mount a comeback, citing their recent match against Incline where they had the two-goal lead only to have Incline tie the game in the second half.
Spring Creek would eventually win that game but Crowe said missed opportunities sunk her team's chances of coming from behind in this one.

"Being down 2-0 is not a big deal," she said. "We had plenty of opportunities to capitalize and we just didn't."
Much like the opening minutes of the game, Truckee got their offense going early in the second half. Marley Simpson scored in the 46th minute as she got behind the defense and barely tucked the ball inside the far post to put Truckee up 3-0.
About a minute later, Seelenfreund found her way on to the scoresheet again when Spring Creek failed to clear the ball out of the box and put it past the diving save attempt of Lady Spartans goalkeeper Samantha Pemelton.
Truckee head coach Kyle Kelly said the four goals his team was able to put up in the second half were the result of improved passing.
"In the middle of that game we lost our shape. We found ourselves in that second half," he said. "We started moving the ball a little bit. We had ball movement towards the end of the game that was just fantastic and that's what we like to do."
Spring Creek's offense only had two shots on goal in the game despite making 16 attempts on goal. The Lady Spartans' best opportunity of the evening came in the middle of the second half when Kiara Tingey was nearly able to finish on a cross from a corner kick by Aliya Tsosie.
Finishing around the box continued to come easy for the Lady Wolverines as Zareli Villa was able to take advantage of defensive breakdowns and notch two goals in the 70th minute and the 77th minute to round out the scoring.
Truckee EDGES Elko
The unbeaten Wolverines continued their hot-streak Saturday with a 4-2 league victory over Elko.
Seelenfreund scored three goals to lead Truckee to the road win. Corinne Doerner chipped in a goal, and Chloe Murphy dished a team-best two assists.
Truckee (5-0, 4-0) hosts South Tahoe for a league match at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
