Truckee soccer | Teams earn easy wins against Whittell

Both Truckee soccer teams defeated visiting Whittell on Monday, with the girls winning 5-0 and the boys 6-1.

The games were originally scheduled for Oct. 5 but were postponed due to poor field conditions.

In the girls’ game, Truckee freshman Claire Roberts scored two goals as Truckee (8-0-1 league) cruised to the easy win.

Shauna Day put the Wolverines on the board with an unassisted goal less than a minute into the match. Roberts followed with her first score, assisted by Kelsi Decker, in the 22nd minute, and Savannah Meng scored a goal assisted by Roberts in the 32nd minute to give Truckee a 3-0 halftime lead.

Roberts opened the second-half scoring with an unassisted goal in the 52nd minute, and Decker rounded out the offense with an unassisted score one minute later.

and#8220;The girls are showing some heart, and some of the players who don’t usually see a lot of playing time are taking advantage of these opportunities and doing some good things,and#8221; said Truckee coach Amy Valdivia.

The Whittell girls fell to 0-6-3 with the loss.

In the boys’ contest, Truckee led 1-0 at the half after a goal in the third minute of the game by Jose Sarabia.

and#8220;We dominated most possessions and had a lot of chances to score (in the first half), but we couldn’t put anything away,and#8221; said Truckee coach Hernan Valdivia, whose Wolverines improved to 7-2 in league.

Jason Apolinar and Jonathan Zarate scored unassisted goals in the second half to push the lead to 3-0. Michael Brixey then scored off an assist from Zarate, Zarate scored a second goal assisted by Apolinar and Bryan Reed scored a final goal assisted by Jesse Fereira.

The Warriors (2-5-1) scored their goal off a penalty kick about 20 minutes into the second half.
