Truckee soccer teams post wins over Galena

The Truckee High girls soccer team handed 4A power Galena its first loss of the season, 2-0, on Wednesday afternoon inReno.The Truckee girls are now 15-2 overall and have already clinched first place in the Northern 3A Sierra League with a perfect 7-0 record. Galena, the defending Northern 4A Regional Tournament champion, is 8-0-2 and tied withReed for first-place in the 4A High Desert League.Senior forward Nicole Oxandaboure opened up the scoring 30 seconds into the match on an assist from Sara Grossman.Grossman, also a senior froward, scored Truckees second goal 12 minutes into the second half on an assist from sophomore Katie Dill. The Wolverines host Battle Mountain this Saturday at 11 a.m. and finish the regular season at home against Incline on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
Truckees boys soccer team won, 2-0, at Galena on Wednesday.The boys are 4-2-1 in the Northern 3A Sierra league and 15-3-1 overall. Galena is 6-3-1 and standing second behind McQueen in its High Desert League.Senior midfielder Scott Kelly scored Truckees first goal on a header coming off a nice cross delivered by sophomore Max Brixey. Junior Al Virrey scored the second goal for the Wolverines on an assist from Austin Prouty.Truckee hosts Battle Mountain on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Incline on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
The Truckee High junior varsity girls soccer team defeated North Tahoe on Tuesday by a score of 3-1.Truckees Katie Stephens scored less than two minutes into the game to set the tone. In the second half Truckee once again increased the intensity with Robyn Bath-Rosenfeld and Caroline Nicholas finding the back of the net. The Lakers added a late goal to bring the score to 3-1. Although all the games between the rival teams were highly competitive, Truckee managed to sweep the season series, 4-0.
