Truckee soccer teams shooting for state title

The Truckee High varsity boys soccer team won two of three games in the Northern 3A divisional tournament last weekend at South Valleys Regional Sports Complex in Reno.
As a result, Truckee will face Sparks ” the team that beat them in the tournament and in one of two games during the regular season ” this Friday at 6 p.m. at North Valleys High School in Reno to start the state championship tournament.
If the Wolverines beat Sparks in that game they will play the winner between North Tahoe and Pahrump Valley for the Nevada 3A state title Nov. 12 at Mackay Stadium (University of Nevada, Reno) at 12 p.m.
“We’re right where we want to be,” Truckee head coach Hernan Valdivia said of entering the state tournament.
The Wolverines beat Dayton 4-0 in the first game. Truckee goals were scored by Scott Eberhardt (2), Al Virrey and Eric Dita.
Truckee beat Spring Creek 3-2 in the second game, with goals scored by Al Virrey (2) and Jeremy Adams.

Sparks beat the Wolverines 2-1 in the third game. Travis Ganong scored Truckee’s only goal.
The Truckee High varsity girls soccer team finished 2-1 in the Northern 3A divisional tournament last weekend at South Valleys Sports Complex in Reno.
The Wolverines will play Incline this Friday at North Valleys High School at 4 p.m. in the state semi-final game. If the girls win, they will face the winner between Boulder City and North Tahoe in the state final. That game will be played at Mackay Stadium (University of Nevada, Reno) Nov. 12 at 10 a.m.
“We played awesome,” Truckee head coach Amy Valdivia said of her team’s performance. “We’re looking forward to (state). The girls are fired up and ready to play.”
Truckee beat Lowry 2-1 in the opening game. Wolverine goals were scored by Mimi Precit, Sara Grossman and Whitney Hardy.
The girls beat Spring Creek 3-1 in the second game. Goals were scored by Hardy, Melissa Kleffman and Grossman.
Incline beat Truckee in the third game 2-1 in overtime. Alex O’Neil had Truckee’s only goal.
