Sun Staff reports

Both Truckee High soccer teams defeated 4A Galena on the road Tuesday.Truckees boys prevailed 5-1 and the girls 3-1 over the Grizzlies, whose boys rank third and the girls second in the most recent Sierra Nevada Sports Media poll, which was released Wednesday. Truckee, which got off to a slow start against Galena, said coach Hernan Valdivia, improved to 18-1-1 overall with the win and remains 6-0-1 in league. We played really terrible in the first half, said Valdivia, whose team led 1-0 at the break after a Bryan Reed cannon shot from 20 yards out. We just came out flat and uninspired. But we turned it around in the second half.In large part because of the senior leadership of Max Brixey, who scored consecutive goals in the second half, both assisted by brother Michael Brixey. Its nice to see the brothers getting combinations going, Valdivia said.Sophomore Raul Cardenas scored Truckees first goal of the second half, and junior Abel Islas added a fifth goal on a penalty kick late in the contest to round out the scoring.Truckee will enter the Northern 3A Regional Tournament from Nov. 6-8 as the No. 1 seed. Both Truckee teams will likely host the first-round game, although matchups have yet to be determined.

The Wolverines improved to 18-2 with the nonleague win. They remain 7-0 in the Northern 3A Tahoe League with one league game remaining a contest Wednesday at Whittell that ended after the Suns deadline.Truckee coach Amy Valdivia was pleased with her teams performance, as the Wolverines held the Grizzlies scoreless until the final five minutes of the game.Sophomore Hilary Breuner put Truckee on the board with a goal assisted by Stephanie ONeil in the 24th minute, and senior Katie Dill followed with a goal in the 45th minute and another in the 60th minute. Kaitlin Cocard assisted Dills first goal while Annika Deurlington assisted the second. The Wolverines have already secured the No. 1 seed entering the Northern 3A Regional Tournament, which is scheduled for Nov. 6-8. Matchups and locations are to be determined after the regular season wraps up this weekend.
