Truckee softball drops two at Fernley
April 15, 2007
The Truckee High softball team lost both games of a doubleheader, 9-1 and 13-3, at Fernley on Friday.
The Wolverines are now 6-6 in Northern 3A league play and 8-7 overall. The Vaqueros are 11-1 in league behind undefeated Lowry (12-0).
Truckee head coach Mitch Brown called the losses “really disheartening.” He cited defensive errors in particular that hurt his team, as the Wolverines kept the score close in the early innings of both games before losing focus and letting each slip away.
“We’ve got to work on defense,” Brown said. “Our hitting is coming along. If we can put it all together we’ll be tough.”
Game 1 remained scoreless through three innings before Lowry capitalized on Truckee mistakes to put up big innings in the fourth, fifth and sixth, Brown said.
Freshman Rachel Zissimos pitched the whole game, walking seven Buckaroo hitters and hitting three to pick up the loss, although Brown said the majority of her runs were unearned.
