The Truckee JV softball team took a pair of games from Sparks on Saturday in the Wolverinesand#8217; home opener, winning the first game 12-2 and the second game 20-5.

Allie Veliquette and Kaite Churchman shared the pitching chores for Truckee in the first game, holding Sparks to just two runs on zero hits. On offense, Jordan Salas scattered three hits in four tries, and Sydnie English was 2 for 3 with a triple to the fence. Clare DePew contributed two hits and three stolen bases, and Savannah Graham got her first hit of the season with a textbook sacrifice bunt.

The second game saw the Wolverines jump out early with 13 runs in the first, and a combined 17 RBI in the game. Veliquette hurled the first inning and retired the side on three consecutive strikeouts. Salas debuted in the second inning on the rubber for Truckee and only allowed one hit in three innings of work, and was aided by a nifty double play off a line drive by Cynthia Santana.

English also made her season pitching debut to close things out in tidy fashion. Jackie Bolton went 4 for 6 on the day, Cheyenne Acevedo was 3 for 5 and Churchman led the team in RBI, with seven.
