Truckee softball: Wolverines rout Sparks on the road
March 25, 2010
The Truckee varsity softball team derailed the Sparks Railroaders 14-1 on the road Wednesday to improve to 2-2 in league play.
Defensively, the Wolverines were solid. Senior pitcher Rachel Zissimos carried a no-hitter through four innings, allowing only two Railroaders to reach base. She finished with a one-hitter over five innings while striking out four.
Zissimos had support from her defense, which committed only one error.
In the fourth inning, second baseman Natalya Jones snagged a sharply hit ball behind the first baseman, and Jessie Jensen caught a line drive at third in the fifth to end the game on the 10-run mercy rule.
Zissimos also gave herself a hand in the first by catching a liner and throwing to first to double off the runner.
Offensively, the Wolverines began the game by scoring two runs in the first on doubles by Natalya Jones, Zissimos and Kaycie Jones.
